Helpers needed at the Cambridgeshire Restricted

If you aren't playing in the Restricted on 1st/2nd October, but might be free even for a small slot to help out, we really need people to help manage shuttles, scores, and generally keep things running smoothly.

You don't need to know about running tournaments, or attend the entire event.  Just an hour or two helping out would be extremely valuable!

If you are available and keen to help, either 9am-3pm on 1st October, or 9am-6pm on 2nd October, please drop the Tournament Secretary Neil Place an email at neilplace101@googlemail.com

GBR Deaf Badminton

GBR Deaf Badminton are in the process of trying to recruit and develop new players for their squad.

If you know of any children or adults who are hard of hearing and are playing in the County, please encourage them to contact Kirstie (kirstiejallen@gmail.com) to find out more about how they could be a part of the squad.

They train in different areas mainly Yeovil, Bedford and Hull to make it fair for all players and usually come together once every 6 weeks. The squad have also competed internationally in countries such as Taipei, Bulgaria, Australia and Switzerland and hope to continue to do so. This is a great opportunity for deaf sport and players who are passionate about badminton.

Long-standing Committee Members stand down

It was a period of great change for Cambridgeshire Badminton Association, as the summer AGM saw a number of long-standing Committee Members retiring after terrific service to badminton in the County.

Stepping down were Sharon Chandler (Chair), Robin Buttle (Secretary), Sandra Ashcroft (Treasurer), Derek Shaw (Coaching Co-ordinator) and Shirley Dalton (Committee Member).

The group have given an unprecedented number of years to helping organise and run the Association for the benefit of the sport and players in the region.  They have been on the Committee for the following periods:

  • Sharon Chandler - 25 year (12 match sec, 13 chair)
  • Robin Buttle (13 year secretary)
  • Sandra Ashcroft (13 years treasurer)
  • Shirley Dalton (30+ years)
  • Derek Shaw (30+ years)

Their combined service adds up to more than 111+ years!!  It is unlikely that such a commitment will ever be seen again in the future.

At the AGM, there were awards of gifts to the various members, and our thanks go out to them all - we are all in their debt.
